Koh Madsum, Koh Tan and the South Coast
How a Pig Island Trip Works
Where the islands are, the jet ski safari stop by stop, what the price is per, the island fee, the pigs, the boats, and the months to go.
Pig Island is Koh Madsum, also written Ko Mat Sum, a small island off the south coast of Koh Samui, 5.8 km in a straight line from Thong Krut pier. A Pig Island tour is a half day on the water: a short crossing from the south coast, a snorkel stop at Koh Tan next door, and free time on the beach of Koh Madsum, where the pigs are. The trip carded first here goes by jet ski: Samui Jetski Safari’s Koh Samui: Jetski Safari, Snorkeling to Pig & Virgin Islands, from $203 per jet ski for one or two riders (checked November 2026), with 861 reviews. That price is per jet ski, not per person.
The short answer
Take the jet ski safari if two of you want to drive yourselves there and back, with guides riding their own jet skis alongside, and the whole ride over in 2.5 hours on the water. One ticket is one jet ski for one or two riders; the driver must be 18 or over, and no jet ski experience is needed. Take a boat if you picture sitting back on a deck, if anyone in your group is under 4, pregnant or prone to seasickness, if nobody wants to steer, or if you want lunch on Koh Tan: the speedboat and longtail half days are priced per person and take 4 to 6 hours with hotel transfers. Either way, budget for the Pig Island entrance fee, which most of the trips here leave out of the price: 50 THB a person.

Where everything is

Koh Madsum and Koh Tan lie off the south coast of Koh Samui, opposite Thong Krut. In straight lines, Thong Krut pier is 5.8 km from Koh Madsum and 5.1 km from Koh Tan, and the two islands are 3.6 km apart. Koh Tan is in Moo 2 of Taling Ngam sub-district (Tourism Authority of Thailand); Koh Rap lies further south. Most hotels are on the north and east coasts, so every trip starts with a drive. By road, Thong Krut pier is 14 km from Lamai (about 17 minutes without traffic), 23 km from Chaweng (about 25 minutes) and 27 km from Bophut (about 28 minutes). The trips’ own vans allow more, 40 minutes to an hour each way, because they collect several hotels. Not every trip uses Thong Krut: Angthong Sea Tour's speedboat and the speed catamaran leave from Bang Kao, a little further east, and Highsea Tour's teak cruise from Nathon Pier on the west coast. Pig Island without a tour has the drive map.
The jet ski safari, stop by stop
A van collects you from Maret, Bo Put or Mae Nam, the three pickup areas the safari serves, and the operator confirms the time after you book; the beach the jet skis start from is not named in advance. Before you set off there is a safety briefing and a lesson in handling the jet ski. The jet skis are Seadoo GTX Pro models with a brake, and no previous experience is needed. Guides ride their own jet skis. The route passes Laem Sor Pagoda on the south coast, stops at Koh Tan for photos, a swim and a snorkel, with gear for each rider, then crosses to Koh Madsum for free time, photos and a swim before the ride back to Koh Samui. The safari takes 2.5 hours, not counting the van, and a group is at most six jet skis, 12 people. If bad weather starts during the ride, the route can be shortened, a stop skipped or the tour ended early, with no refund; if the company cancels for weather before the start, you get a full refund or a new date.
What the price buys, and what it is per
The safari is from $203 per jet ski (checked November 2026), with free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance. One booking is one jet ski, and one or two people can ride it; two people who want a jet ski each make two bookings. The price covers the jet ski, the guides, the safety briefing, life jackets in all sizes, snorkel gear for each person, the Koh Tan entrance fee, the air-conditioned van from the three pickup areas, drinking water, insurance and a waterproof storage compartment on the jet ski, and a guide can take photos with your phone at the stops. Not included: the Pig Island entrance fee (50 THB a person, free for children under 8) and towels; waterproof phone cases, riding glasses, sun hats and dry bags are for sale. A jet ski carries up to 200 kg. Bring your passport or an ID card, swimwear, a towel, a change of clothes and sunscreen. To compare it with a boat, set one jet ski price beside two boat seats: Happy Samui's speedboat half day is from $41 on promotion, usually $55 a person (checked November 2026).
The island fee, in each trip’s own terms
No authority publishes an entrance fee for Koh Madsum: we found no page from the Tourism Authority of Thailand or any local authority that states one (checked November 2026). Most of the trips carded here leave out a fee of 50 THB a person: the jet ski safari, where children under 8 go free, Happy Samui's speedboat and Discover Thailand's private longtail. Others put it in the price: Mr.O Samui City Tour's longtail day includes the entrance fee to the islands, and the speed catamaran and TKToursamui's sunset trip include it too. The elephant combo does not say. Carry some baht in small notes either way. What a Pig Island tour includes sets every carded trip side by side.
The pigs
The tour operators describe the pigs on Koh Madsum in different ways, and none cites a source. No official body has published anything on their care that we could find (as of November 2026), so this site does not tell you how they are kept. The trips also differ on feeding: some offer it as part of the visit, while Angthong Sea Tour's speedboat trip and its shorter Pig Island trip list feeding animals as not allowed. The pigs: what the trips say sets out each trip’s own wording.
When to go
The Thai Meteorological Department’s 1991-2020 normals for its Ko Samui station put the driest months in February to April: February averages 64.3 mm of rain on 5.6 rainy days, March 115.8 mm on 5.9 days and April 82.9 mm on 8.1 days. November is the wettest, with 444.6 mm on 18.7 days, and October (294.9 mm) and December (263.1 mm) are wet too. January is not dry: 126.8 mm on 11.1 rainy days. The station records the island as a whole, not Koh Madsum itself. The best months has every month.
Jet ski or boat
The jet ski safari is not suitable for children under 4, pregnant women, people with heart problems or other medical conditions, wheelchair users or anyone prone to seasickness, and nobody under 18 may drive. A boat suits more people, gives you more time on the islands and, on most trips, a meal, and costs less per person. Mr.O Samui City Tour's longtail day has the lowest from-price of the boats carded here, at $26 on promotion, usually $38 a person (checked November 2026), with 2 hours of free time on Ko Mat Sum. Jet ski or boat compares every way across, and Koh Tan snorkelling covers the reef stop.
The Jet Ski Safari to Pig Island
A Seadoo jet ski for one or two, guides on their own jet skis, snorkelling at Koh Tan and free time on Koh Madsum: 2.5 hours on the water. Priced per jet ski; the Pig Island fee of 50 THB a person is extra. Starting from $203 per group up to 2.

Samui Pig Island Tour: Questions
The price and what it is per, getting there, going without a tour, the island fee, the pigs, distances, Koh Tan, driving the jet ski, and the months to avoid.
Samui Jetski Safari's jet ski safari is from $203 per jet ski, for one or two riders (checked November 2026); the boat trips are priced per person. Mr.O Samui City Tour's longtail day is from $26 a person and Happy Samui's speedboat half day from $41 (checked November 2026). Some prices include the Pig Island fee and some do not; see what a Pig Island tour includes.
No. One booking is one jet ski, and one or two people can ride it. Two riders who want a jet ski each book two. The driver must be 18 or over and show a copy of an ID or passport, and a jet ski carries up to 200 kg. The Pig Island entrance fee is extra and is per person: 50 THB, free for children under 8.
By boat or jet ski from the south coast of Koh Samui. Koh Madsum, the island known as Pig Island, is 5.8 km in a straight line from Thong Krut pier, and the boat legs of the trips carded here take 15 to 30 minutes. Most trips include a van from your hotel; the drive from Chaweng to Thong Krut pier is 23 km, about 25 minutes without traffic. See Pig Island without a tour.
You still need a boat, and boats to Koh Madsum leave from the south coast, Thong Krut among them. Operators there sell private longtail trips at prices each sets for itself, and no official fare is published (checked November 2026). The bookable version is Discover Thailand's private longtail, from $98 for a group of up to 2 (checked November 2026), with no hotel pickup. See Pig Island without a tour.
No authority publishes a fee for Koh Madsum, and most trips leave out a fee of 50 THB a person. Those include the jet ski safari (free for children under 8) and Happy Samui's speedboat. Others put it in the price: Mr.O Samui City Tour's longtail day, Ocean King Samui Catamaran Co,Ldt's speed catamaran and TKToursamui's sunset trip. Carry small notes in case.
No official body has published anything on the care of the pigs on Koh Madsum (as of November 2026), so there is nothing official to judge it by. The trips describe the pigs differently and disagree on feeding: Angthong Sea Tour's speedboat trip lists feeding animals as not allowed, while others offer feeding as part of the visit. See the pigs: what the trips say.
Koh Madsum (also written Ko Mat Sum or Koh Mudsum) is sold in English as Pig Island for the pigs on its beach. How the pigs came to be there is not documented by any official source we could find; the tour operators tell different stories, and none cites a source.
5.8 km in a straight line from Thong Krut pier on Koh Samui's south coast to Koh Madsum. Koh Tan is 5.1 km from the same pier and 3.6 km from Koh Madsum. By boat, each leg takes 15 to 30 minutes on the trips carded here.
Off the south coast of Koh Samui, in Moo 2 of Taling Ngam sub-district (Tourism Authority of Thailand). It is the snorkel stop on nearly every Pig Island trip. See Koh Tan snorkelling.
No previous jet ski experience is required on the jet ski safari. There is a safety briefing first, and the guides ride their own jet skis. Drivers must be at least 18; children under 18 ride with an adult, and the safari is not suitable for children under 4, pregnant women, people with heart problems or other medical conditions, wheelchair users or anyone prone to seasickness.
February to April are the driest months at the Ko Samui weather station, and November is the wettest, with 444.6 mm of rain on average (Thai Meteorological Department, 1991-2020 normals). October and December are wet too. January is not dry: 126.8 mm and 11 rainy days on average. See the best months.
On the jet ski safari, a full refund or a new date if the company cancels for weather before the tour starts. If bad weather starts during the ride, the tour can be shortened, skip a stop or end early, with no refund. Free cancellation is up to 24 hours in advance.
